Volunteers enhance the compassionate care Northside Hospital is known for, and we welcome you to join our team! If you would like to meet new people, build valuable skills, and take part in free educational programs and hospital events, please consider applying today. Our opportunities range from patient care roles throughout the hospital including our Emergency Department and on patient care units, to non-patient care areas including the front desk, family waiting area, and in support of our professionals in Marketing and Human Resources, among many others. Volunteers receive a free meal for every four-hour shift as well as other benefits. To be considered, please read and carefully follow the instructions for completing the application and additional documents below then call for an interview. Incomplete applications will not be processed.

After completing the appropriate forms, please call Volunteer Services at (727) 528-5959 to set up an interview. All volunteers must be tested for TB, and be immunized for influenza during flu season (generally October through the following March 31). A parent/guardian must accompany a minor to the interview.

Volunteer Opportunities

Family Waiting Room Volunteers

Family Waiting Room volunteers work closely with staff to keep visitors in our surgical waiting areas and ICUs informed, ensuring timely updates on their loved one's status. Volunteers engage with visitors and escort them to the proper unit/department. Tuesdays 8:00am to noon.

Front Desk Volunteers

Front Desk volunteers assist guests by badging and in some cases escorting/transporting them to a department/unit. These volunteers also provide information on hospital events and services. Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays 8:00am to noon. Afternoon shifts from 4:00pm to 7:30pm are also available.

Patient Discharge Transport Volunteers

Patient Admission/Discharge Transport volunteers assist with the discharge of our patients via wheelchair. Sundays noon to 4:00pm.

Chief Comfort Officers

Chief Comfort Officers (CCOs) ensure patients' comfort during their stay with us. Volunteers visit with patients, offer amenities from quiet kits to books, newspapers, and playing cards to blankets, pillows, etc. Choose your weekday or weekend shift.

Emergency Department Concierges

Emergency Department Concierges assist our patients with registration and keep friends and families informed when their loved one is being carefully attended to in our ER. Shifts available 8:00am to noon Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays noon to 4:00pm; Saturdays 4:00pm to 8:00pm; and Sundays 8:00am to noon.

A FANStastic Way to Help Others!

If you love food and helping people who are hospitalized this is your volunteer gig! Join our Food and Nutrition Services (FANS) team serving as a FANS Ambassador! These volunteers visit and assist inpatients by completing a meals preferences questionnaire, offer patients smiles, beverages and snacks - what could be more rewarding?!! Our FANS volunteers are an integral part of the FANS team and as such are included in trainings and meetings. Volunteers are needed only two hours from 8:30am to 10:30am. Pick the day or days that are best for you!
